The association
IRCCS (Institute for Clinical Research on Cancers and Blood) is a non-profit association (law of 1901) founded in July 2000 whose operational structure allows for quality clinical research activity in hematology.
How we work
Our structure is physically located within the clinical hematology department of Lyon Sud Hospital and is present at all strategic points in the conduct of the clinical studies carried out there. It is recognized as a third-party structure by the Hospices Civils de Lyon (HCL).
The association is managed by Professor Hervé GHESQUIERES, head of department, as president.
IRCCS intervenes at the request of a promoter (research laboratory/industrialist/learned society), to carry out therapeutic and/or biological research aimed at developing new treatments or new therapeutic strategies for blood cancers.
Clinical trials conducted in the department are intended for patients suffering from all hematological pathologies (lymphoid & myeloid): lymphomas, myeloma, leukemia, myelodysplastic/myeloproliferative syndromes, etc.
Professionals in charge of this activity (clinical research associates (ARC), nurses (IDE), technicians (TEC), data managers, etc.) meet the daily need for the management of more than 150 ongoing clinical studies.
IRCCS staff members are trained in good clinical practices and work exclusively on hematology themes, thus ensuring great flexibility and adaptability to the workload imposed by certain clinical trials.
The IRCCS association is independent from pharmaceutical manufacturers, learned societies and public authorities. It is paid ont he bases of offered operational services.
The means to finance the association come from the remuneration of academic or industrial pharmaceutical partners to carry out clinical studies. When IRCCS agrees to participate in a clinical study, a contract establishing the financial conditions for carrying out the study is signed between the association and the partner wishing to conduct the study.

A multi-skilled team

Our partners

Several hospital practitioners and assistant clinical heads of the hematology department of Lyon Sud Hospital also carry out fundamental research within the LIB laboratory.
The LIB laboratory, under joint supervision of INSERM, CNRS, Ecole Normale Supérieure de Lyon, Claude Bernard Lyon 1 University, Hospices Civils de Lyon and Jean Monnet Saint-Etienne University is located on the Charles Mérieux campus within the Lyon Sud Hospital. This location allows strong interaction between the hematology departments (clinical and biological) and research, which facilitates translational research projects.
The themes covered by the doctors in the hematology department are:
– T-cell lymphomas
– B cell lymphomas
– Acute myeloid leukemia
– Anti-tumor immunity
This research work has led to a number of publications: list of publications

The IRCCS association is housed within the Lyon Sud Hospital. The operational team is based in the heart of the clinical hematology department.
